The Legend of the Belt
The name “Shoot the Moon” comes from the card game “Hearts” The
purpose of hearts is to get rid of all of your hearts and the dreaded Queen of
Spades. Each heart is worth a point and the Queen of Spades is worth 13.
The most difficult and challenging strategy is to get all of the hearts and the
Queen of Spades to “Shoot The Moon.” In doing so, all of the other players get
hit with 26 Points.
It’s tradition to get together on a Wednesday night and golf a nine-hole
scramble, usually the “More Mature Team” versus “The Young Bucks.” After
the golf game it’s off to the local pizza parlor for the hearts tournament. The
goal is to win two consecutive rounds of hearts. The winner is then given the
“Hearts Belt” The belt is held from week to week by the reigning champion in
a velvet bag. The belt itself looks like it came from the old-school cable
wrestling tournaments. It’s a large belt with the Queen of Spades in the
center, with rhinestones and other fake jewels.
Just like “Shooting the Moon” there are several business thresholds that are
hard to overcome in Montana. The ownership group has maneuvered around
these issues and has acquired the rights to Chili’s in four states, the rights to
Romano’s Macaroni Grill in Montana, the rights to the On The Border concept,
and the hope of adding more concepts in the future.
On May 4th, 2006 Shoot The Moon LLC, acquired the franchise territory in
Washington, Idaho, Montana and Eastern Oregon. With the franchise rights
STM acquired seven company-owned Chili’s in Washington and Idaho.
